“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

– Dolly Parton

I like to think and imagine that life is a balancing act. We are perched precariously on a taut rope that could either save us or become our downfall. Events in our lives are simply breezes, distractions, and other events to get us to fall off of our rope. We dodge. We meditate to keep focus. We go vegan. We cut out Red Dye 40. We go running everyday. We try to keep our cool, levelheaded mind.

It’s not always that easy. More often than not, for the people who struggle to keep ahold of their lives, they find themselves falling off of that rope. Their balance is that of a newborn giraffe or horse. They struggle to get up off of the ground, the impact and shock of what has rattled them rendering them speechless.

Here is where most people give up. They see that mistake, that fall, as something irreparable. There surely is no Band-Aid to aid that wound that they had cut so deep! What good would it be to try and get back up on that rope? Why even bother climbing back up, regaining balance, and continue on that journey? It’s too hard.

A lot of the times where we find ourselves failing, it is not the fault of anything or anyone. The real test about failing and the test behind making mistakes is the way we hold ourselves after that mistake is made. We are human; this is everyone’s first chance living life. We need to teach and learn from the world and people around us. Keeping an open mind and keeping the resilience to keep going is a hard skill to learn and its’ a hard skill to upkeep. You will be challenged and there will be days, weeks, and even months where this all feels pointless, hopeless, and not worth it anymore.

I guarantee you: you’re wrong.

There is so much more to this life than working yourself into the ground. Your worth is not weighed by how much you’ve accomplished; but rather how many times you stood back up to make that goal a reality.

I find myself struggling with this a lot. It’s so easy to make sure that my friends are taking care of themselves, ensuring that they remain hydrated, on top of their health, and constantly reassuring them with love and admiration; as friends should do!

We must pour out into the world what it is we wish to see.

The Greatest people to grace this Earth are starting to pass away… It is up to us to be the change we wish to see.

We need to be the generation to shatter that glass ceiling.

There is so much to be done in this world. Celebrities and philanthropists such as Dolly Parton and Tim Curry were such amazing persons to grace this Earth. Their accomplishments were not only their fame and stardom — it was the impact they had on lower-income communities, minority communities, and the LGBTQIA+ communities.

There are people in this world that need help. It takes a village to get through this life! We cannot do it alone. As hard as it may seem, no matter how much of burden you may feel for the way you react on emotions… the right people will remain steadfast and guide you back to the light. Surround yourself with the right people. The right people have your best interests at heart without expecting anything back in return. That is what we call unconditional kindness. Friendships should not be transactional.

“Life is not a spectator sport. If watchin’ is all you’re going to do, you’re going to watch your life go by without ya.”

– Hunchback of Notre Dame

Life is a bittersweet journey. Similarly to that of a rollercoaster, we find ourselves in the lowest moments… dips along the track, but no matter what, that speed and force will press us forward and up and over the next hill. We crest on the top of each rollercoaster peak, being able to just barely glimpse what the future will hold now that you made it to the top of that issue, overcoming the odds.

My boyfriend just messaged me as I’m writing away on this blog. It’s a picture of Mountain Dew-scented body wash. If only you heard the massive sigh from where I was…. Anyways, I digress…

My point is: we are born. We die. Those are two things in life we have no control over. We do not have control over when our time is on this Earth. What really matters is what we do between those mandatory life events that make us who we are. It’s how we learn from our mistakes and apologize properly, with the motivation to do better in the future. This doesn’t mean we won’t make mistakes ever. This just means that we have the self-improvement to show that other person we hurt that we will do our best efforts to not see it happen again. Think of it as a reassuring promise. You’re letting that other person know that you acknowledge what you’ve done wrong, that it was you who was in the wrong, and that it will be you to do better in the future.

“Whenever you have the chance, go and find a horizon. It opens up the brain.”

– Tim Curry

There is nothing more humbling that apologizing properly for your actions. Remember, we cannot dictate how we make others react/feel/etc. But, we can control what we say and do, thus leading to a future where everyone tries to help everyone feel better. This world would be a lot less lonely if we all had someone to lean on, don’t you think?

And if you have nobody…

If you’re reaching for support and no one answers your call..

If you have no idea where to start searching for a place or people to call home…

Let me open my doors wide. I’m your friend now. What’s up, twin?
